ICARUS Chamber Experiment: 2014 FIXCIT Study_20140125_METHACROLEIN/hydrogen peroxide_Hydroxyl radical_Ammonium sulfate_Methacrolein + OH, low NO, dry, (NH4)2SO4 seed at end
d789018

Goals:
Study methacrolein low NO chemistry.

Summary:
We successfully oxidized MACR in low NO conditions. About 9 ppb was remaining by the time we turned off lights. After we turned off lights we added in dry ammonium sulfate seed and the AMS saw aerosol uptake. The main peaks increasing on the CF3O- CIMS were hydroxyacetone, acetic acid, formic acid, and peroxyacetic acid. Note the night prior to this experiment we cleaned the bag with Milli-Q water, and then flushed the bag overnight at 40 C to dry it. RH was typical in the morning at ~3%.

Organization: 2014 FIXCIT Study
Lab Affiliation: California Institute of Technology
Chamber: Seinfeld chambers

Experiment Category: Gas phase chemical reaction, Aerosol formation
Oxidant: Hydroxyl radical
Reactants: METHACROLEIN, hydrogen peroxide
Reaction Type: Photooxidation
Relative Humidity: 5
Temperature: 28
Seed Name: Ammonium sulfate
Pressure: 750
