Could wind have parted the Red Sea?

This article in Weatherwise magazine explains for a general audience the research results published in a scientific paper: Drews and Han 2010, "Dynamics of Wind Setdown at Suez and the Eastern Nile Delta", PLoS ONE. A wind setdown event was observed at Lake Manzala in the eastern Nile delta in 1882 by Major-General Alexander Tulloch. He made a connection between this event and the parting of the Red Sea described in Exodus 14. The author used a modern ocean model to simulate both events, achieving results that match the descriptions of a temporarily dry lake-bed. The chosen crossing site at the Kedua Gap corresponds to certain archaeological discoveries from Egypt's New Kingdom period. Further research by other disciplines may shed light on the site.
