Strength Characteristics of Grace Cryovac YH Polypropylene Film

This report is part of a series prepared for the Materials Research Project of the NCAR Scientific Balloon Facility in order to extend the reliability and capabilities of scientific ballooning. A sample of Cryovac YH polypropylene was tested to evaluate its strength characteristics for use as a balloon film. The material was slightly inferior to Mylar for superpressure balloon applications but it appears to have strength advantages for zero-pressure balloons.
