Theory and Application of Nonlinear Normal Mode Initialization

This document serves as a summary of Ronald M. Errico's lecture notes and papers on the subject of normal mode initialization and how it is basic to dynamic meteorology. The author concludes that the theory and principles of normal mode initialization should be part of the core curriculum of graduate level.
