ICARUS Chamber Experiment: Jimenez Lab_20160816_1-octanol/1-DECANOL/Methyl nitrite/nitric oxide/1-DODECANOL_Hydroxyl radical_Ammonium sulfate_18.6_ug/m3_AS3

Goals: Fast burst photooxidation of alkanols (high-NOx). Gas-aerosol-wall partitioning kinetics. Determine accommodation coefficient (alpha) and effective volatility under differing seed aerosol types (differing phase and polarities, inorganic/organic, humid/dry, standards/SOA). Summary: Alkanols, Methyl nitrite, NO, and particle seed added to chamber, UV lights turned on for 10 sec, multifunctional products formed. In most experiments in this experimental set, 10-second UV light/photochemistry burst repeated a few times. SMPS measurements of particle size distributions were conducted to determine particle formation, surface area and condensational sink rate coefficients. Gas-phase chemical species were measured with nitrate CIMS.
